New Mossberg Maverick Bolt Action Rifles

Mossberg was showing its new value-priced Maverick bolt-action rifles at the 2010 SHOT Show. The Maverick rifles will be available in long and short actions, starting with .270 and .30-06, and .243 and .308 respectively.

The Maverick rifles have black synthetic stocks and can be had with the adjustable length of pull system. The rifles come standard with Weaver-type mounts for easy installation of a scope.

The Mavericks will have a standard trigger, not the adjustable Lightning Bolt Action system that Mossberg is putting on many of its rifles and shotguns. While the LBA trigger is definitely a nicer trigger, there is nothing wrong with the standard trigger provided out of the box from Mossberg.

The rifle offers a significant value in the hunting market. Many new hunters need a gun that they can learn with, but at a bargain price, which these carry. (More on that in a second.) The Maverick rifles come in the most common hunting calibers, which means finding ammo should be easy and the rails allow for the easy installation of a scope. The adjustable length of pull also allows for a better fit for small-statured shooters.

Mossberg Maverick

The new Mossberg Maverick bolt-action hunting rifles will carry a retail price of “about $250” according to the company rep I spoke with at the show. I would not be surprised to see these sell for even less at some of the big box stores.

Update – The Mossberg Maverick rifles are now on the market. Reports are coming in that they are capable performers. I have not shot one, but I have handled on at the local shop. My impression was that the rifle was balanced pretty good and the trigger seemed fine. The bolt was a little stiff, as compared to some more expensive guns also on the shelf, but that it wasn’t bad. I may wind up with one of these in the near future as a secondary hunting rifle.

The best part is that the gun was listed at $199. I’ve seen some people find this gun for a mere $179 on sale.

I was given a Mossberg Maverick in .308 winchester for a christmas gift. The rifle is very reliable. It has a somewhat great trigger pull. I have had no feeding or extraction problems at all with my rifle. The gun will perform 3 shot 100 yard groups in 1 moa area. It is very accurate with good optics. I have taken dear out to 400 yards with this rifle. One of my best guns period. I would recomened this rifle to any one looking an accurate and dependable rifle who is in the market for a good hunting gun, without breaking the bank. The Maverick is an excellent choice. PERIOD!!

I have a maverick 308 WIN made by mossbreg and have lost the bolt wondering if there any other bolts that could potentially fit my gun as they are very hard to find in New Zealand

I have had one for a few years now. I didn’t know Mossberg made rifles until I stopped by a local shop. I like a hunting rifle that is not so beautiful that I am scared to hunt with it afraid I will scratch it. I have the 30-06 , model. I absolutely love this thing. The trigger? Well it’s not that bad. Nothing I can’t get used to. No problems at all with the rifle. I have shot at two deer, both went in the freezer. The last one, a 6 pt dropped dead in his tracks. I would love to own another.

Hi Rico,

That’s a good question, and one I don’t know the answer to right off. I’d suggest checking the Brownells site as they tend to have a very wide selection of aftermarket triggers, stocks and other parts for rifles like this one. http://bit.ly/2AuPsBY

Best,
