Taurus has moved the Judge line solidly into the big boom category with the introduction of the Raging Judge Magnum chambered in .454 Casull.
This six-shot, big bore revolver can fire .454 Casull, .45 Colt and 2.5″ and 3″ .410 shotshells. Due to the power generated by the Casull cartridge, the cylinder has a double lock.
The Raging Judge Magnum is available with either a three-inch or six-inch barrel. The six-inch barrel has a vented rib and can accommodate a scope mount.
Both versions of the Raging Judge Magnum have a fiber optic front sight and a fixed rear.
This Judge is big and heavy. The three-inch model weighs almost 61 ounces, while the six-inch version weighs more than 72 ounces. Holding a floor sample at the SHOT Show, I was impressed by the revolver’s very solid construction.
This is a big jump in the power of the Judge line, and it may prove to be very popular with people living in bear country.
2013 Update
I wanted to give everyone a quick update on the Raging Judge and what Taurus is doing with the line. Unlike a lot of new guns introduced at the annual trade shows, these guns are still selling strong. Currently, Taurus offers the Raging Judge in a 3″ and 6.5″ model. The 3″ model has a matte stainless steel finish and carries a retail price of $1,061. The 6.5″ model has a glossy black finish and has a MSRP of $1,012. The longer revolver weighs a whopping 73 ounces, which sounds heavy, but probably feels a little light when shooting the .454 Casull rounds.
There was some previous concern about the locking mechanisms on the Taurus Raging Judge. The gun has lock points in front and at the back of the cylinder. I have talked with a lot of people since these guns were introduced, and I have not heard of any failures in these guns.

I bought a judge a year ago….the 45lc and 410. loved it. Then I bought the new 6 shot 454…wow. That thing kicks. I’ll stick to the 410 000 3 inch loads for the house. I can’t imagine letting loose with a 454 in the house. Although Id like to see the hole it leaves in a bad guy breaking into my home….

I just bought one 2 weeks ago, and on my first shot the cylinder and barrel DID NOT line up!!!! That was one hell of a kick when a 454 round hits the side of the barrel at point blank range! They repaired the gun, but i asked for a replacement. I don’t trust the strength of the steel after something like that. Now 2 weeks later i have my gun back, and i’m trying to get the balls up to shoot it again.
If its a paper weight you got some really heavy paper lol. sounds like you would be better suited to fire something like a 22 cal short…..
I have the 6.5″ barrel and at 50 feet was able to put all 454 casule rds into targets head including both eyes so go figure its a pretty accurate paperweight. And from 10 feet i put 300 bbs and 18 30ot buck while only having to fire onle 6 shots. So its also the besr home defense gun ever too. So!!!

Bought it the first time I saw it in a 6″ and it’s the most fun I ever had with a paperweight. Stick to bb guns buddy, you might get hurt playing with paperweights.
I was all gung ho for this idea until I thought about that double cylinder lockup. That to me makes this a dumb fun gun for someone with disposable income. Hell, if you blast through all of your ammo, it takes you that much longer to reload. you can’t open the wheel up with one hand( unless you are some king of long fingered spider monkey )and don’t even try to act like it can be done one handed without dropping your judge. It can’t. Like I said before, I was all for this gun as a defensive weapon, but seeing that kind of stupid crap with 2 locks is asinine for a defense situation. that kind of stuff will get someone killed. I also believe they should have just left 454 out of its lineup altogether. Many people who buy this will never even use that caliber and it just makes it look more useful than it really is.
if you have to reload either you picked a fight with way too many people or you cant shoot for beans. six shots of 454 should to job both with a bear, and even more so with a dirt bag trying to jack you. My favorite quote says if I run out of Ammo either I do not need any more, or More will not help!!! if you need a faster response then just have a second smaller firearm such as a semi auto clip fed pistol as a back up, it is not un-thinkable to carry two firearms.
dude, with something like this, if you need anything more than 6 shots, you shouldnt be wasting your money on such a big gun you cant shoot. also, if your gonna buy such a big gun, you are likely gonna hold it with both hands, making reloading as easy as with one latch with practice. bottom line is, you cant expect them not to make a handgun taking such a powerful cartridge to not be sturdy as all hell
I don’t know who or how tough u r but if ur shooting one handed you need to check ur self for roids cause this is huge with that said your second hand is there all u need is to practice with it and it will be just as fast think before you speek ur mind i think this gun is awesome all i want on it is a flash light rail and im down. the shotgun shell is for home defense ur not gunna miss 6 times 454 or 45 lc for large agressive attacking animals is if u dont kill it with six u should of stopped at 5 and saved the last for u.

Ummmm I own one and the double lock is because of the pressure generated by the 454 round. If you have to reload in a self defense situation maybe you need more time on the range lol

Mark, you shoulda stuck w/ur init gung ho gut reaction. The Raging Judge Magnum, in 3″ or 6″ (6″ is better when firing the 454 rds….WOW) IS THE PERFECT HOME DEFENSE & STROLL THROUGH BEAR COUNTRY gun any man can possess. AND, I want that dbl release on the wheel cyl, whereas it makes it a much more solid weapon piece and stable to fire (especially that 454 Casull round). So it is FAR from assinine to have dual locks.
You load up your 1st round to fire with a Winchester PDX1 .410 (Personal Home Defense round), and then, depending on your residence layout, some 454 or 45LC.
H-E-L-L-O…..McFly…..THAT IS DEVASTATING DESTRUCTION TO ANY HOME INVADER, or snake or bear encounter. And that weapon is plenty accurate within the distances inside most any home (rich or poor home). Unload all rounds on intruders and you’ve six dead bad guys.
Jesus Dude, just how many invaders are you expecting to come charging into your home? And how many more than six do you expect to keep coming in after you after the 1st six of their buddies just got blown away in front of them, whereas you’d hafta then “speed reload”?

Oh, I’m a retired cop, also did my full service time in the Army, am in my 50’s, own both the 3″ & 6″ in stainless, have fired just about everything out there, and have run my Judges through abandoned home scenarios – THEY KICK ASS!!!!
Excuse me but if you can aim like a big boy you probably wouldnt need to reload. I bought this gun be cause of the 454 casull but wanted the option to use .410 shells. Ive figured out that art to unlocking the cylinder but yes it does take 2 hands but if my target isnt dead it sure as hell is running. My advice to you is maybe take your time between shots and not blaze out like your a hollywood actor.

The use of the .454 Casull cartridge virtually guarantees the use of a double lock up. That cartridge is very powerful, and to make the revolver safe Taurus stated the double lock was needed. The Raging Judge Magnum is not the first big bore revolver to have it.
I’m not sure this gun would be the first choice for self defense (outside of bear country) for many people, but it can be reloaded without losing much speed on the double lock.
I’m not sure that revolver cylinders should be opened one-handed anyway, except in unusual circumstances. For me, the most efficient way to open the cylinder for reloading is one hand hits the release while the second comes up in a U under the frame to push the cylinder out and control it. With the Raging Judge Mag, it seems the second hand can still accomplish this task while hitting the front release.
If you don’t want the .454 Casull, there are plenty of other Judges that might be right for you.

I guess I would definitely need to practice that maneuver extensively to become proficient with it. I think the judge will come in to its own very soon given the array of ammunition you can put through it and the ammunition being made for it. I am happy that someone actually put a .454 casull cartridge in to a wheel gun that can actually shoot six shots instead of 5.
My Judge magnum has a single lock, my Smith air weight smubbie has a double lock. Both guns just use one button to activate the locks.
if you only use one button it means there are more parts, and more can go wrong with the lockups the need to use your other hand is not something new, and makes the firearm more reliable over the long term.
the ultra light raging judge mag has a 7 round chamber from what I have seen. I plan on pricing one on my next gun show outing soon

I think this is a great idea for a revolver. All the rage has been with the semi auto pistols lately, but this brings more options to revolver guys. It would serve well as a hunting sidearm. .454 for dagerous hunts & .410 for snakes and still leaves the option for .45LC or .410 for home or auto defense. Most weapons don’t give that many uses, i love the idea and i want one.

If I do, I will use 21/2 inch brass cases and load jacketed bullets. It should work very good with the heavy weight bullets.
I wish it had a bayonette add on option, lol. But I really like it, it would be interesting to see what exclusive round options may be created for it. I like the ammo versatility.

I JUST TALKED WITH TAURUS AND WAS TOLD THAT THE RAGING JUDGE (ULTRA-LITE/MAGNUM SHOULD BE IN PRODUCTION BY LATE 2010. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!! I WAS IN THE MARKET FOR THE 4510TKR-3SSR WHICH IS THE PORTED BARREL JUDGE WITH A P. RAIL BUT NOW I THINK I’LL WAIT FOR THE RAGING JUDGE ULTRA-LITE.
I like the options, I already have carry guns and all of them are on the bigger side of the carry options. I think this 6 shot judge with 45LC, .454 and .410 is great, now I can carry for snakes when I hunt i the south, and bear when i head out west, plus it is a great veh and home gun to have as a back up.. I like it..

I own both a judge and a raging bull 44 mag. The bull has the double lock on the chamber, and i have never had any problems reloading with quick speed. I think this will be a great gun, definitely will buy the big dog version as a Christmas present for myself. If i acan find one of course.hahaaa.

If this gun does not solve your problem than hang it up you are done! hahaha I am looking forward to this new line of thought one gun for many situations. This will save money and time at the range. With winchester ammo in this gun you have a lot of killing power for self defence and with it now being in 454 is a great side arm when elk and moose hunting. hope you feel the same way. So, should I get a 3 or 6 inch barrel? Will the 6″ drastically improve accuracy? Is it worth the extra 11 ounces? What do you guys think?
The extra weight sure helps with the recoil. When I shoot 45LC +P or standard 45LC it feels like shooting a 9mm or maybe a 40cal. I love the accuracy out of the box with my 6.5″ and the balance. This is my favorite weapon of all time. I don’t care much for the 410 rounds but they would be handy for snakes or other varmits like someone else mentioned. If your going to buy one go all out and get the most for your money. Kentucky Gun Store sold my wife this one for $699 and she paid a local FFL $20.00 to recieve it. So I got mine for $720 but I would have paid more now that I own one. I may buy another one and make a left hand holster just so I can carry two at a time for fun. It makes a great cowboy shooter with 45LC.

The original judge was stated to be accurate to 100 yards with the 3 inch barrel so I would say yes the 6 inch barrel will improve the accuracy how ever barrel length is no substitute for practice.
To those complaining about the double lock taking to much time for a reload probably shouldn’t be using a wheel gun to begin with. what do you need a fast reload time for any way? 1 well place shot is infinitely better than 6,12, or 18 random ones, Stop worrying about how fast you can reload and work on your accuracy!
Ultimately this gun is going to become my best friend and I shall carry it every where, Seriously 410, 45, and 454 I in a personal defense situation I wont even need to pull the trigger just unholster it and the enemy would mess their pants, but just incase I need to shoot I can’t wait to get that kinda power in my corner!
Actually, becaue of the rifling, the 3 inch version is more accurate than the 6 incher. If you contact Taurus, they’ll comfirm this for you. I know that this flies in the face of conventional wisdom, but it’s the truth…anyhow!

According to customer no service at Taurus, the release date is now Nov/Dec 2010. I don’t know why the push back. For those of you who may not know, there is now a company that makes “0000” yes 4(0) buckshot with 5 count em 5 pellets per 3″ 410 round. That in a 6 shot chamber means 30 shots in the bg direction. Who needs to reload. If you miss, just throw it at them and run.
P.S. From reading the customer comments, the ammunition company is also very slow in delivery of the shells. The must have caught it from Taurus.

They push the release date back in order to increase demand, a standard marketing gimmick. Nintendo did the same thing with their Wii.
the sargent took the words out of my mouth, a well placed shot will keep you safe, if you come to need to use the weapon then you need to aim mid section because center of mass will take your target down with that big of a round.
You know why they made it a six shot? Because if you shoot anything with 5 rounds of 454 Casull and it keeps coming, use the last one for yourself!

I have owned dozens of handguns ranging from Kimber, Sig and Walther to the cheapest RG. The quality of the Taurus is quite good, especially for the price. I have owned a Raging Bull in 454 and found that it was a very accurate weapon. As for fast reload, I cannot imagine needing to reload a 454 quickly !! I have an ultra-light judge that is my snake gun when fishing and hiking. Love the judge.

the print on the side of the barrel is wrong.. it says “.45LC/.454.410 GA”… a 410 is not the gauge, it’s the diameter of the bore.

410 is the proper designation for the 410 gauge shotshell configuration. And the bore size of the 454 Raging Judge is actually 452.
WOW I DONT OWN ONE OF THESE WONDERFUL PISTOLS BUT I SHOT ONE THIS LAST WEEKEND. IN OUR HUNTING LEASE WE HAVE A LOT OF SNAKES. RATTLERS AND MOCCASINS MOSTLY. JUST ABOUT EVERYONE IN OUR LEASE HAS KILLED ONE OR MORE SNAKES. I WEAR SNAKE BOOTS BECAUSE OF ALL THE SNAKES. I ASKED THE OWNER OF THE PISTOL IF I COULD ALSO KILL A HOG WITH IT. I never knew snakes were such a problem. I thought it would be a good critter gun being my dogs seem to find everything on 2 to 6 legs out there. Does anyone know if this gun is going to be a small rifle or somewhat easy to carry? Maybe I may go with the 3 inch. I’d like to handle one before buying it. I love revolvers 6 1/2 and really like the Magnums. I was looking at the 454 Radging Bull but then I saw this Gotta have it! I want one I want one I want one! This will be a kickass gun for Hog and be the MAN at the range..
had a salesman try to sell me on a preorder for this gun at Bass Pro Shop today, just thought I’d point out the obvious concerning my position towards the gun; I am already looking to buy an olriginal model Judge in standard stainless with a snub nose and 2.5″ cylinder for CCW-Safety, not for hunting, though the original could easily put a rabbit or similar sized prey in the pot. I find that the original model covers all of the big gun’s areas for a much cheaper price with the exception of large game hunting, as I wouldn’t want to face-off against a Canadian Grizzly with nothing but a wheel-full of .45s and .410s…
though I would appreciate that extra round to make it a true 6-gun, that Sgt. had it right, you’re not gonna miss with The Judge anyway and they’ll most likelybe dead or dying after 5 or 6
shots either way, whether from .45s, 410s, or deffinitely .454s, even if you did miss a couple times. However, short of Casull rounds the new Smith & Wesson ultimate defense rounds that fire 3 slugs and a dozen BBs per shot will do the trick nicely. Plus, there is a lot to be said for the fact that even if you just fire once and barely nick them, having just heard a gun blast and seen the weapon, any given street assailant will shit themselves and flee immediately, guaranteed!

Thanks for taking the time to post. I definitely encourage anyone who has this, or any firearm, to train. Amazingly, even a short barrel shotgun can miss if you don’t aim. Also, someone who is whacked on dope is not likely to flee just because you shot at them. Best bet is to aim, and make sure you put them down, not rely on their intelligence to flee in the face of lethal force. If they were that smart, they wouldn’t be breaking in to your home, right? 😉

The other additional change to this line from Taurus, is that those 2 new revolvers are chambered for 3 inch instead of the 2.5 inch, giving you more ammunition options.
I have seen online (about a month ago) the FOUR ott buck shotshells in .410 They do look intimidating!
I love glocks (just if you missed it by now) But whenever that new RAGING JUDGE ultra lite comes out….I will be placing the Glock to sleep at home while I take the new ultra lite 7-shot as a primary weapon. THAT is how much I like the new Raging Judge! AND it will become my second revolver, which I am saying in order to show that for me to carry a revolver as a primary wapon, it HAS to be GREAT, not just good.

I am the proud owner of a 6in. judge. I love that gun, but i also owned a 454 casull that i also loved befor it was stolen. Now i have the chance to have both in one gun. God bless the U.S.A. Oh and to thoes guys who have to find fault in the 2 hand lock. If you have to shoot more than 6 rounds and reload fast in a defense gun fight. You should prac more. or give up the fight.
this is a great gun just like the 460 w/3 choices of ammo i cant think of a better revolver then this it is awesome for those who gripe about double lock and speed loading all i can say is this “if your that bad a shot or want fast reload’s stay with a semi auto” i have been around all kinds of guns from bb’s to the 50bgm and s/w 500’s both auto’s and revolver’s the two best guns are the raging judge and the 460. although i dont care for revolvers the raging judge is great i have the judge w/3″ cylinder i shot a bear and only needed 1 45lc round to stop the animal in it’s track’s
I want to use the new taurus raging judge in the 6 inch barrel to rabbit hunt with. Does the barrell have a choke and how heavy is the 6 inch. Have any of you guys shot the gun with 410 shells to see what kind of pattern it holds. The old judge is very poor on the pattern.

I actually got better groups using 2 3/4 shells than the 3 inch…and I like the 000 buck and the disks…
There is quite a spread even with the Winchester PDX shells. At 15yds it will range from 7-10″, but thats what it is made for. Anything over 15yds would be gambling, and I don’t gamble.

Does anyone know if Taurus plans to make the Raging Judge Magnum in a carbine version like the Circuit Judge? It would make a dandy whitail rig for Indiana hunters. I decided to hold off buying a Circuit Judge in case Taurus decides to make the 454 available.
I certainly hope they do, it would make a great rifle to go along with the handgun. I would hope they keep it to 16″ carbine style though.
When is this bad boy coming out? I found this gun three days ago and have been drooling over it ever since. I found a couple of places online with prices on it as low as $685. I can’t wait for it to be released so I can try it out.

Man… I have been calling Taurus for months and finally I got a call from my local gun shop just before Christmas. The gun is built like a brick sh!t house. It looks like it will be a winner. Now I just have to wait for the MD state police to add it to the registry. One of the employees at the gun shop said that the recoil was not bad at all with this gun. I am curious to see what kind of group I can keep with it. (this wont be until march)
On a different note, what is with all of the Taurus Judge bashing on these blogs? Every Judge I have shot has been pretty darn accurate. The shot opens pretty quick, but then again is is supposed to right??

I’m pretty neutral on the Judge, with a belief that it is (1) fun and (2) useful for self defense in -certain- situations. Regardless, I’m a firm believer that there doesn’t need to be a “need” to buy, own, and shoot a gun. If you find something you like, you ought to be able to buy it without a bunch of “experts” telling you you made a silly purchase. If you like the gun, that’s good enough for me.

I don’t know what your shop considers not bad….I held on with both hands when I fired the 454 round….geez,,,it hurt…..thats a kick…I didn’t fire more than the first six rounds..
I own a judge, and it shoots really well. I have no complaints. This gun will be a blast to shoot (pun intended). I am sure the muzzle blast will blind the bad guys too. This is a perfect camp gun. Able to defend against snakes and a grizzly bear. Nice. Hear about the Judge Magnum 28? It is a 28 guage shotgun shooter. I hope the ATF doesn’t mess with it like everything else on the planet. janet reno did more to ruin this country than even hillary or bill in that regard…
Just purchased the 3″ Raging Judge. WOW!! Is this a gun to shoot. A handle full with the 454 casull, but manageable. Check out Federal’s #4 buckshot in 3″. Impressive delivery. Now, who makes a holster for this monster? Think I want a LH cowboy shoulder holster in cross draw. (Have to be custom made)

To tom L. yes the ATF has put a hold on the raging judge .28 guage, just talked to a guy at the local gun shop and thats what he told me.
I just got this gun and I have to say that it is a great gun!! The 410’s and 45’s shoot great. The big 454 will bite you if you are not paying attention. I think that the weight is balanced just right to handle the big 454 round. Taurus designed this gun perfectly! Too bad to hear about the 28 gauge being held up by the ATF, looks like a fun shooting gun.
Has anyone actually seen a 6″ Raging Judge. I.m starting to see 3″ models at shows, but no 6″ yet.
Got my Raging Judge magnum, 6″ stainless yesterday. Wow what a handful. I plan to shoot it tomorrow at an indoor range. I think I will call it “Bear be gone” or “Cat scat” ( the mountain variety :-0) I had several local gun shops looking for the past 6 weeks and the wait was worth it. This is my 2nd Judge and it is sooooo much bigger than my 3″/3″ magnum.

I took my mini hand cannon (aka raging judge magnum 6″ .454 casull) to the range and I was very impressed with the results.
First up was the standard colt .45 long 250 grain. This ammo was impressive in my previous judge magnum 3″/3″ but, and I am assuming because of the extra heft, weight & balance of the raging judge, seemed like shooting a .22 long with more flash. Smooth as silk that a child could do it if only they could only lift it. And, it is noticeably quieter than the standard version. At just over 72 onces, it really is a hand full, or in my case two hands but surprisingly well balanced and easy to use.
For the second round I mixed .410 magnum (3″) slugs and 000 buckshot, three each. Again this gun calmed them down too as compared to the standard judge magnum. It appeared that the muzzle flash was less but it was probably just the barrel size difference.
Next up I tried some “hot” .45 colt long, the CorBon 335 grain +p. I made the mistake of putting this in my original judge (highly not recommended!!!) and it was a real palm stinger in that gun. What a kick it had. But, in the raging judge, it was more like shooting standard .45 colt long cowboy ammo in a standard judge. Oh my!! I am now feeling the love for this gun. It tames all standard judge rounds.
Now I am confident that the .454 casull, 250 grain loads should be less intimidating than I anticipated. I load up and just to be more accurate, I cock the hammer and shoot the first 4 rounds single action. I was stunned at the differences in sheer power that is released. By the time I shot the 4th round I was confident that it is manageable. I shot the next two rounds double action rapid fire which is doable but less accurate. What a blast!!!! Literally. The range officer came up to me and asked if he could shoot it. The sound and vibration was an attention getter. Most people cannot believe the size of this thing. For hiking in Wyoming, it is a lot less weight and considerably smaller than a rifle.
Overall, I was more than satisfied with the “upgrade”. Now the challenge is finding an affordable holster. I’m looking for a shoulder / across the chest military type that won’t inter-fear with my backpack straps.
A quick note to the nay-sayers out there: I own a Raging Judge, and it’s as useful and fun as it is made out to be. It is compact enough to carry on a hiking trip, and it’s not really overweight (if it is, get stronger).
The flexibility of ammunition is tremendous. It’s loaded with Winchester Home Defense during the ‘work week’ and either .410 shot gun or .454 Casull for hiking (dependant on location and expectations). I’ve fired a variety of rounds through it, and found it to be very relaible and VERY fun. Between my Beretta, Walthers, and sig – this is the dessert gun when training.
Quick note (noth that I’d ever do this): with the right shoulder holster and a light jacket, the Raging Judge is actually concealable – where law allows!
You can save from buying all different lengths of brass if you reload by simply buying lots of 460. The bullet diameters of 45 colt, 454 and 460 are the same…the casull
has the highest cup or copper units pressure at mid to high 50,000, here are some safe loads to put in a 460 case for
your Raging Judge Magnum: First load 1. 250 gr. XPB with
42 gr of Lil’Gun 2,044 fps primer Win LRM pressure 43,600 cup.
Second load 2. 260 gr. JFP with 35.5 gr of Lil’Gun 1,895 fps
primer WSR Pressure 37,900 cup
I read about a guy using 444 Marlin brass to use for 410
loads in his, I guess he was saying .410 casings are hard to
find ? I don’t know bout that…just more interesting things
to learn about….
I have been shooting revolvers for many years. The Taurus
Raging Judge Magnum is now my favorite. First time shooting
at 15 yards all 5’s and head shots with the 45lc. Very controllable and fun to shoot. Still on of the loudest on the range. Then I switched to the 454 casull. Holly $#!#,
by far the most powerful thing on the range there in a while. Some shooters stopped when the 45lc went off. Everyone including the people in the shop stopped when the 454 said boooooom. I had a smile on my face that lasted for hours. I’m 200lbs and found the recoil very pleasing,
not everyone will. But I like power. To know that one shot when you need is it, no matter size or what there on
when they break in, they are down and not getting up. A 9mm? I was once told from a friend of mine ex-!!!!!!! that
with a 9 or the like, you keep firing and walking forward
until you can touch them with the barrel. That’s fine for pro’s, not the everyday joe’s. One shot, one kill with a 454 for self defense. Not a spray of bullets in a dark home
when your scared as ship for the unpreparred. Bottom line,
the taurus 454 casull is awsome power. It can stop a grizzley, it can stop an intruder.

im glad to hear you say that i have been surfing the different sites on how people like this gun i do and i havent shot it. i reasontly moved to sitka alaska not grizzly country but still bear country im stuck however on the raging judge mag or the 4510tkr-3ssr the three inch barrel judge with the picatinny rail i think its called so i don’t know yet the price difference makes me un easy and i can get it from a buddy ffl holder but still its $200-300 difference what do u think

Hey, I own a 3″ Judge for carry along with a Sprinfield Arms XD 3″ 9mm. I just bought the Raging Judge Magnum 6 1/2″ and it is absolutely amazing. A bit heavy but then your not going to plink with it are you. I work in some remote areas of the country and I like the idea that it will take down large game or large predators if the occasion arises. It shoots like a dream and the weight keeps the recoil very managable. 2″ groups at 25 yards is a cinch from standing or prone. The double cylinder lock is not a big issue either. As far as a paperweight, I’ll just say it will hold down War and Peace in a tornado so whats your point? Taurus has some awfully good weapons and I will trust them anytime anywhere. By the way, I am a retired Police Officer who carried a 1911, .357 Python and S&W 6906 over a 20 year career and none of them are any better than the Taurus 24/7 9mm in my truck or either of my Judges. JMHO
I just got one and like it but dont see why no night sights are offered because self defence, or at least home defence may happen in low light. I am trying to find out if someone makes a laser for it besides crimson trace. Dont want to change the grip. cyl.1 = 3 ” pdx1 cyl.2,3,4,5 = 45 colt plus p dpx 225 grain at 1200 fps cyl.6 = 3″ pdx1 I dont worry about over penetration i live alone. This 45colt round gives 720 lbs of energy and very little recoil or muzzle rise out of my 6″ barrel [ very mild ] and opens up to .94 inches through denim thin steel or both. PDX1 is to almost assure first round hit even if nervous or terrified. 5 or 6 of those bbs cant feel good and that would be a very bad shot. So hope for the best and prepare for the worst. Because it dont matter how much liberals want to take our guns, thugs or gang members dont turn theres in. So us having guns is helping protect them and they dont even get it. WOW! Oh yeah back to the gun. The jury is still out on it being my first choice for home defence but I think if it were the only gun i owned i would still feel pretty safe in my home but will also continue to have fun testing different loads at different distances. Yesterday i found out it will make a 3.5 gallon jug full of water vanish with a 300 grain xtp at 1650 fps. Later
As far as the 2 locks go. I think it takes the exactly same ammount of time to push the 2 locks as it would if it only had 1. Push left with right thumb, for the lock above the grip. Down with left thumb for the lock under the barrel while your other fingers on your left hand push the cyl. open from the back. If both are pressed at once how would that take any longer. Right hand is like any other revolver so after a few reps. of adding the left hand it feels verry natural almost as easy as any other revolver because getting the bullets in will take more time than getting cyl. open in my opinion even with a reloader because i can get the cyl. ope instantly. I also agree with the people who said needing a reload is very unlikely. 4 pdx1s( 3 inch) and a couple 45 colt is a total of 2 230 grain bullets. 16 plated .41 inch disks. And 64 bbs. All at 830 to 850 fps from 6.5 inch barrel. If you miss with all of that what makes you think you have the talent to do any kind of high stress reload. Dont let 2 locks keep you from having one.
Went back to the range with my 6 1/2″ Raging Judge. Fired the 454 Casull from Buffalo Bore. 360 grain flat noses. They were superior and deadly accurate at 25 and 50′. I then loaded some Buffalo Bore 45 Long Colt +P 300 grains and wow are they hot… I love the feel and look of this revolver and shooting it is a rush. Everyone wants to look at it when they hear the muzzle blast. Recoil is very minimal due to the weight and perfect balance of this weapon. I had to make my own holster since there isn’t one on the market yet. Nothing fancy but very functional. The 9-10 oz double shoulder tooling leather I bought will make more than a few scabbards, knife sheaths and a left hand holster for the Judge too! That way I can carry both the Magnum and my 1911 at the same time, just in case…
My wife picked me up the 3 inch for our anniversary and i would have to say that this gun is amazing. its a very sturdy design i have put plenty of 45 LC and plenty of 454 through it and without the double lock the power behind the 454 would be way to much for the cylinder to hold. I’m a big guy and i will be carrying for self defense, and i have tried one handed with the 454 not very easy but can be done if you trust your self enough and have the strength to do so. Now with the 45 LC or the 410 it is very easy to hold the weapon one handed and be accurate with it, also the reload time is not that slow they make speed loaders and with practice you can easily make up for the double lock feature. this is definitely a gun that i highly recommend to anyone looking for a great gun that shoots 3 different types of ammo. As for a paper weight i would use it just so when you tried to come in my home if easily accessible.
i love the one i have the only thing that i dont like is the price of the ammo but other than that great all around gun great job keep up the good work tarus
