LaserLyte Side Mount Laser for Ruger LC9

LaserLyte recently announced a new side mount laser for the Ruger LC9 handgun. The laser unit is designed for easy installation and to fit in the majority of existing holsters.

The LaserLyte side mount laser is a red laser (650 nm) operating at 5 mW, which is typical for handgun lasers. Green lasers, which tend to be more visible in daylight conditions, are frequently much more expensive than red lasers.

The LaserLyte operates on four 377 “button” batteries. The batteries are supposed to operate for up to five hours if left on constantly.  According to the company, batteries are included.

Unlike the LaserMax laser unit for the Ruger pistols, the LaserLyte has both a constant and pulse mode. I don’t claim to be an expert on the use of lasers in a defensive handgun, and I’m not sure what the pulse might do for you, but this unit has it if you want it.

One of the things the pulse mode seems to do is extend battery life. In pulse mode, LaserLyte states the unit should run for 10 continuous hours.

This side mount laser will also mount to the Kel-Tec PF9.

While at the 2011 National Association of Sporting Goods Wholesalers, the good folks at Laura Burgess Marketing were able to catch up with the sales manager for LaserLyte.

Specifications:

  • Compatible Firearms: Ruger LC9, Kel-Tec PF9
  • Power Output: Class IIIA, 5mw

When will the LaserLyte for the Ruger LC9 be available?
What is the cost, plus shipping (shipping time)
Does it have an on/off switch?

Hi Randall,

MSRP is $109.95 and the units are expected to ship sometime this month (December 2011). I presume it has an on/off switch.

Notice that the laser covers the serial number of the gun on the LC9, NOT GOOD and is illegal. The LCP has the serial number on the other side so that was fine.

It is not illegal to cover the serial number, it is illegal to deface the firearm. Meaning taking a dremel to the serial number.

It is not possible for law enforcement to verify that a gun is yours if you can’t see the serial number. Most police officers will not wait for you to get your tool box open and remove your laser to reveal the serial number. Covering up is defacing. And can get you arrested.

You are wrong. It is NOT illegal for you to cover it. It is illegal to take a dremal to it though.. If some hilbilly officer wants to try to prove a point by arresting you then so be it. They will wait for you to take off the laser.. Don’t try and be mister cool know it all.. Im sure that you know some, but not all…..

WRONG!!! The law in Mass and Maine both clearly said to me that it is considered “altering” the serial number”. Pull your head out of your *SS and realize this is common sense. I want to meet the cop who would wait for you do disassemble a gun, what an idiot you are! By The way Laserlyte responded to my e-mails and they said they are aware of this issue and are working on it.

your an idiot.. You are wrong. I don’t live in any of those 2 states and by federal law which is over all state laws. Being me, the guy on youtube that carrys a glock 18c as a work gun I think I would know what altering a firearms s/n is… Thank you, try again..

Obviously you are not familiar with state or federal gun laws. Gun laws vary by state and can enforce any laws they want. The federal law you must not have been trained on is the law that says states can make and enforce their own gun laws Taking that one step further, towns can make their own laws in addition to any state or federal laws. Even further, towns can deny you the right to own a handgun at all. But you being the guy on “you tube” you must know it all mr glock 18c guy. I guess the government does not know what they are talking about but you know it all. I will not waste any more of my time debating the obvious fact that you are unfamiliar with state and federal gun laws. To all people reading these posts, I am sorry you may have wasted some of your time looking his posts. Any one with common sense will see those posts are just rants and make no sense. But beware that he is “the guy on you tube that carry’s a glock 18c as a work gun” so he would know.

You are a tool.. I hope any one reading these post can see that you are a tool. Your a waste of 10 fingers. It is not illegal to put this laser on your firearm. Do not, I repeat DO NOT take this guys advice. Buy my laser!

Oh now we know who you are! Your a laserlyte employee… Truth hurts right. Here is the email I got from your company in response to my e-mail and I quote “We are aware that the serial number is covered when you install the CK-AMF9 however LaserLyte is constantly striving to meet the needs of our customers and improve our product line including the visibility of the serial number on the firearm”. Ouch that hurts you now doesn’t it. I make no false statements and back up all my information before posting. I never said you can’t put your laser on a gun. I said it is illegal and unwise in some states to cover the serial number on a handgun. Call every state police dpt. in the USA and see if covering the serial number on a handgun is allowed. I even like the performance of your laser, but it’s overshadowed by your poor buisiness practice and service. Now that Ruger offers the Lasermax laser as a factory option on the LC9 and can be added to any LC9 ever made, I highly recommend using what the factory endorses. Buy the Lasermax laser that doesn’t cover your serial number!

If you live in a state that respects your rights (like Florida) you don’t have to worry about covering your serial. All types of gun registry is prohibited by state law so serials are pretty unimportant.

If you think it’s illegal where you carry then by all means don’t buy it, but please don’t knock a good product that doesn’t bulk up the gun. And let’s be honest, good as the gun is we’d all carry something else if size wasn’t important.

No law enforcment officer in his or her right would ever throw a person in cuffs or take said person to jail for simply covering the serial number on his firearm. This would open up a whole can of worms legally for the officer and all involved. The federal law only states that you shall not remove, deface or alter the serial number on any firearm in any way. The law states nothing about covering the number. I have had duty arms that have had the serial numbers under the grips in some cases.
But hay, you might want to call your government officials and argue this point but they might not get back to you any time soon.
