2024 SHOT Show

Welcome to the GunsHolstersAndGear.com SHOT Show coverage for 2024.

The Shooting, Hunting, and Outdoor Trade Show is here, and there are many new gun announcements for the new year. Buckle in – there is a lot to cover.

I’ve divided the page into several sections to help you find what you are most interested in. This American trade show is an annual event in Las Vegas for the firearms, tactical and outdoors communities.

New Handguns and Pistols

New handguns introduced or shown at the SHOT Show are listed here. This includes revolvers and semi-automatic pistols.

Daniel Defense H9

Daniel Defense H9

In what will likely be one of the largest handgun announcements at the SHOT Show, Daniel Defense introduced the new H9 pistol.

The new pistol is a striker-fired take on the 1911-style of pistol. It appears to be an evolution of the Hudson H9 that first appeared at the SHOT Show in 2017. While an interesting gun, the company eventually went bankrupt. It seems Daniel Defense is picking up where they left off.

The Daniel Defense H9 claims the thinnest profile and lowest bore axis in its class. It features ambidextrous controls, an optics-cut slide, an accessory rail and an aluminum grip.

The company touts the “straight-pull” trigger – something that was also a feature of the Hudson H9. It would appear that Daniel Defense further refined the trigger as shown in this patent application.

Chambered in 9mm, the magazines take 15 rounds – almost as many as the polymer, striker-fired pistols from Glock, SIG Sauer and others. It’s almost as many as the Springfield Armory Prodigy (17).

Daniel Defense enjoys a good reputation in the shooting industry. I hope they’ve ironed out any of the problems from the initial design and deliver a gun that shoots as good as it looks.

The MSRP is $1,299 and you can read more about them on the Daniel Defense site here.

Kimber R7 MAKO Tactical

Kimber R7 MAKO Tactical at SHOT Show

Kimber Mfg. announced its new R7 MAKO Tactical pistol. According to the company, the features on this gun are as a direct result of the company’s customers providing feedback and making requests. So keep this in mind – company’s do listen to their customers.

Kimber includes extended magazines, a threaded barrel and a Holosun mount. This R7 comes with two 15-round magazines, a Kydex holster from MFT and a range bag. You can also get one with a Holosun red dot sight.

Without the red dot, the MSRP is $734. With the red dot, the price is $951. Get more information on the gun from the company’s website here.

Glock Adds More 5th Generation Guns

Glock Gen5

Glock announced they added the 10mm G29 and .45 ACP G30 to its line of Gen5 pistols. They are shipping to dealers now.

Diamondback SDR .357 Magnum Revolver

Diamondback SDR 357 Magnum revolver

Diamondback Firearms announced the company’s first revolver. Called the SDR, the new wheelgun will be on display at the SHOT Show. It is chambered for the .357 Magnum cartridge and is compact for concealed carry.

The cylinder holds six cartridges and swings open with the push button release on the left side of the frame. The hammer is exposed which allows you to cock it for a single action shot.

Diamondback equips this gun with a 2″ barrel that has a pinned fiber optic front sight. Low profile rear sights also use fiber optics as well. Diamondback branded Hogue grips are standard. The MSRP is $777.

Additional information on the SDR can be found on the company’s website.

Hydra Weaponry BMP-23

Hydra BMP 23

Hydra Weaponry will show a modernized BMP-23 at the 2024 SHOT Show.

The pistol is chambered for the 5.56 NATO cartridge and has a bullpup-style configuration. This allows the gun to have a barrel that is longer than typical pistols – 11.5″ – without the government permission slip for a SBR.

The guns use an AK-47-type gas piston system. It uses an A2-style pistol grip. It will be interesting to see the final product. I suspect it will take standard AR magazines and pistol grips. Visit the Hydra Weaponry site for additional information.

MAC-5 and MAC-5K Pistols

MAC-5 9mm Pistol

Military Armament Corporation (MAC) announced it would now be selling two roller delayed blowback 9mm pistols called the MAC-5 and MAC-5K.

These guns are their variations of the HK MP5 subguns. The company states the “are compatible with HK and most other aftermarket products designed for MP5 variants.”

The MAC-5 has an 8.9″ barrel while the MAC-5K is sporting a 5.8″ barrel. Both are pistols, so no stocks.

Both pistols have a MSRP of $1,099 and come with a lifetime warranty. Compared to an HK, these are reasonably priced. Check out the company’s website for additional information.

Kahr X9

Kahr will show a double stack 9mm pistol at the SHOT Show. It is called the X9. The company has not released much information on it, but they did send an advanced copy to TheFireArmGuy – see his video above.

The pistols appear to use the standard Kahr trigger while incorporating many of the advances made by Springfield Armory and SIG Sauer – down to being compatible with the magazines from those guns? Weird. Watch the video above.

Springfield Armory TRP Line Revamp

Springfield 1911 TRP

Springfield Armory introduced six new 1911 pistols to the company’s existing TRP line. All six guns are chambered for the .45 ACP cartridge.

The six pistols break down to three basic variants with a 5″ and 4.25″ version in each variant. The basic models are: 1911 TRP, 1911 TRP Coyote Brown and 1911 TRP Classic.

The 4.25″ models are more than just a short barrel. They are designed for concealed carry and have bobbed frames to reduce potential printing under a shirt or jacket.

I recommend checking out the coverage of these guns on TheArmoryLife.com here.

Global Defense SA-9

Global Defense SA-9 Pistol

Global Defense introduced a new pistol called the SA-9. The 9mm handgun offers a number of features, but probably the most interesting is that the gun feeds from a HK MP5 magazine. This mag is considered to be one of the most reliable in the SMG world.

The pistols are made in Turkey by Akdas Outdoor. They use a blowback, semi-automatic system which helps to keep the price relatively low.

Features include machined front and rear sights, a Picatinny-type top rail, threaded barrel and ambidextrous magazine catch. Additionally, the guns have an AR-15 compatible trigger, hammer and disconnector.

The MSRP is $799 on these. Additional information is on the company’s website.

Tisas USA PX-9

Tisas USA PX-9

Tisas USA announced the release of their PX-9 Carry pistol in three configurations: the PX-9 IO, PX-9 Gen 3 OR, and the PX-9 Gen 3 TS. The company states the PX-9 Carry pistols combine the best features of the full-size PX-9 Duty into a compact size ideal for concealed or everyday carry.

The PX-9 Carry offers a rubber overmold on interchangeable grip panels and back-straps. The PX-9 Carry OR and TS models are optics-ready with a Shield Sights RMS footprint. The TS model additionally features an ambidextrous thumb safety. These pistols have a MSRP of $369.

The PX-9 Carry IO is equipped with Iron Sights Only and is priced $30 less than the other models.

All three models include:

  • Forged Carbon Steel Slide
  • Polymer Frame
  • Integrated Picatinny Rail

New Rifles

If you are looking for a new rifle in 2024, you might find what you are looking for here.

Smith & Wesson Model 1854 Lever Action Rifle

Smith and Wesson Model 1854

Smith & Wesson surprised a lot of people with the introduction of a lever-action rifle at the SHOT Show. This gun is called the Model 1854.

It’s been a while since the company offered a lever gun, but this one looks like a winner. Fitted with 19.25″ barrels, these guns are chambered for the iconic .44 Magnum.

Not only does that play well to the company’s ties to the famous cartridge, but it also is an excellent choice for lever guns. Full power loads are good for defense and hunting while lower power “Special” loads are great for plinking and target practice.

Smith and Wesson Model 1954 at the SHOT Show

The standard model matches a black synthetic stock to a stainless steel barrel and receiver. The Model 1984 Limited Edition has high-grade satin walnut furniture with a black polished PVD finish on the metal bits.

Pricing for the base model is $1,279 and the Limited Edition has a pricier ask at $3,499. I’m interested – but will only be buying the lower cost version.

CZ Scorpion EVO 3 S1 Carbine in .22 LR

CZ Scorpion EVO S1 Carbine 22 LR

CZ announced a new variant of the CZ Scorpion line. This one is a carbine chambered for the .22 LR cartridge. This new rimfire rifle features the same styling as the centerfire version of the gun with the obvious benefits of cheaper ammo and lower recoil.

The guns have a 16″ hammer forged steel barrel that is threaded. It comes with a comp which can be removed in favor of a suppressor. Unfortunately, they come with only 10-round magazines. I’m sure someone in the aftermarket will step in to offer high-capacity mags.

The company advises the guns will be covered by a transferable lifetime warranty. No MSRP was available from the company at the time of this writing.

Taurus Expedition Bolt Action Rifle

Taurus Expedition rifle

Taurus announced a new bolt-action rifle called the Expedition. The new rifles are an interesting addition for the company that is better known for making low-priced handguns.

The Expedition is designed specifically for hunting. Initial rifles will be chambered for the .308 Win cartridge and have an 18″ stainless steel threaded barrel with a black DLC finish. The rifles feed from AICS-pattern 5-round magazines.

Taurus selected the Remington 700 action, which is a tested action that can offer great service and accuracy. Taurus states the “…Expedition often delivers sub-MOA accuracy…” suggesting that 1″ groups are possible, but not guaranteed.

Additional features include:

  • fluted bolt
  • 60? bolt throw
  • threaded blot knob for customizing
  • adjustable trigger
  • planes stock in handguard area for tripod placement

Taurus states the company will add additional calibers in the near future. The MSRP is $984.99 – not a bad price if it delivers good performance.

TNW Firearms 1911 Aero Survival Rifle

TNW 1911 ASR in case

TNW Firearms builds a range of quality guns called the Areo Survival Rifles. These guns are take-down carbines that have the look of an AR-style weapon, though they are substantially different. Their main purpose is as a survival gun in a “break glass in case of emergency” situation.

I’ve shot their 9mm Aero Survival Rifle and found it to be a handy shooter. You can get them in a range of calibers including .45 ACP, 10mm, .357 SIG, 460 Rowland and .40 S&W.

TNW Firearms 1911 Aero Survival Rifle

The new gun, called the 1911 ASR, is chambered in .45 ACP, but with a twist. This one takes single-stack 1911 magazines. Consider it the perfect companion for someone with a Springfield or Colt on his or her belt.

Franklin Armory OPS-16R

Franklin Armory OPS-16R

Franklin Armory announced a new complete rifle called the OPS-16R. The rifles feature the low-profile Osprey Defense gas piston system. It is a self-regulating system that allows for shooting suppressed or unsuppressed without needing to make any manual adjustments.

The rifle is chambered in 5.56 NATO and can come equipped with the company’s Binary Firing System (BFS III). The rifle has a MSRP of $1,349. With the BFS III, the cost is $1,539. Uppers alone will run $849.

Diamondback TG-Nine 9mm Carbine

Diamondback TG-Nine 9mm Carbine

Diamondback Firearms introduces a new 9mm carbine that has the look of the classic “Tommy Gun.”

The new rifle features a 16″ 4150 barrel, the company’s 9R bolt carrier and a 7075-T6 upper and lower. The wood furniture is walnut while the magazine is a Magpul D-50 drum. The barrel has a Tommy Gun style flash hider.

And yes, it ships with a Savior Equipment Ultimate Guitar Case. These cases are awesome and retail for about $200.

Diamondback states the rifles are available now and have a MSRP of $1,699.

Hydra Weaponry AR10 Modular Rifle

Hydra Weaponry AR10 modular rifle

Hydra Weaponry will show its new AR10 modular rifle at the SHOT Show. The company has made a name for itself with modular AR-style rifles – guns that are easy to swap parts and calibers on the fly.

The new rifle will be chambered in .308 (initially) and will likely use some of the company’s existing modular technologies. I’m looking forward to seeing more on this one.

Bond Arms LVRB

The prototype of this rifle was first shown at the 2023 SHOT Show. Now the company is a few months from shipping, and they will be showing the finalized product at this year’s show.

An interesting blend of AR and lever gun technologies, the gun is the result of draconian gun control laws in various areas of the United States. Chambered to .223 Wylde specs, the gun is designed to fire both .223 Rem and 5.56 NATO cartridges accurately. [Here is a good article on What Is .223 Wylde if you want more information.]

The company plans on expanding the line to include .300 BLK, .450 Bushmaster and .350 Legend.

Originally, the company estimated the MSRP would be $1,500. Currently, the estimated MSRP is $1,599. The market is fluctuating, and inflation is real.

New Accessories and Shooting Gear

Here I list all the new parts, accessories, optics and other shooting gear that will be shown at the SHOT Show.

Blackhawk EDC Tool

Blackhawk EDC Multi-Tool

Blackhawk announced a new EDC tool. The multi-tool, as the name suggests, is made for Every Day Carry. It includes 10 tools geared toward first responders and members of the military.

The tools include screwdrivers, knife blades and needle nose pliers. The pliers include a carbide cutter. A true military and public safety tool should include a bottle opener as well. Maybe they figured everyone had one anyway?

These are made for Blackhawk by Bear & Son Cutlery. Pricing has not been announced yet.

Freedom Munitions .44 Magnum X-Def Ammo

Freedom Munitions 44 MAgnum

Freedom Munitions announced the addition of a .44 Magnum load to its X-DEF defensive ammunition line. The new load uses a 240-grain, copper-plated hollowpoint bullet that runs at 1,350 fps from the muzzle of a 6″ barrel.

According to the company, the bullet provides penetration to 15″-18″ in Clear Ballistics gelatin. With 970+ ft-lbs of energy, that’s a fair bit of bear protection.

Browning Ammunition MaxPoint in 28 Nosler

Browning Ammunition MaxPoint 28 Nosler

Browning Ammunition added the .28 Nosler to its MaxPoint line of hunting ammo. These loades uses a 140-grain polymer tipped bullet moving at 3,315 fps. This generates more than 3,400 ft-lbs of energy at the muzzle.

Browning states these rounds offer both rapid expansion and deep penetration to help anchor an animal for a clean harvest.

Silencer Central Banish Speed K

Silencer Central Banish Speed K suppressor

This compact rifle suppressor designed for the 5.56 NATO cartridge offers low back pressure and high performance. With a 10.5″ barrel and 55-grain ammo, the company advises it measures 142.3 dB at the muzzle and 138.5 dB at the ear. While this may not be “hearing safe” for regular practice, it is a significant reduction of harmful noise when used “in a real world” defensive shooting.

The suppressor is only 4″ long and has a diameter of 2″. It weighs a hair over 14 oz. It’s compact nature lends itself to movement though confined spaces – such as your house.

The MSRP is $1,199.

Minelab X-TERRA Pro

Minelab X-TERRA Pro metal detector

While we often focus on firearms, the SHOT Show is about a lot more than just guns. The “H” and “O” literally stand for hunting and outdoors. Falling into those categories are a wide range of things including the new Minelab X-TERRA Pro metal detector.

The X-TERRA Pro metal detector is designed as an affordable entry point into the metal detecting sport. It stands out for its simplicity and ease of use, with a very affordable price tag. The detector features preset Search Modes optimized for different environments like parks, fields, and beaches, each with two unique settings to adapt to specific terrain. The unit also allows users to switch frequencies between 5, 8, 10, and 15 kHz for deeper detection.

The device boasts a large, backlit LCD screen displaying icons for each Search Mode, signal strength, frequency, battery power, volume, and more. The user-friendly soft-touch button array enables quick adjustments of frequency, sensitivity, terrain settings, and more. The X-TERRA Pro also offers multiple tone audio options for clear differentiation between trash and treasure, with the ability to gauge a target’s size and depth by sound. It supports various audio options, including built-in speakers, wireless headphones, wired headphones, and waterproof headphones.

Fully waterproof up to 16 feet, it is suitable for creek beds, shallow tidal waters, and can withstand rain and accidental submersions. The X-TERRA Pro excels in beach environments with a dedicated Beach Mode to handle challenging saltwater conditions.

The X-TERRA Pro is priced at an MSRP of $299.99.

Winchester 400 Legend Super Suppressed Load

Winchester Super Suppressed 400 Legend Ammo

For the new 400 Legend cartridge, Winchester Ammunition announced a new load in its Super Suppressed line. The new load uses a heavy-for-caliber 300-grain open tip range bullet traveling at a mere 1,060 fps.

At this velocity, the ammo should be subsonic and not have the “crack” associated with projectiles breaking the sound barrier. When combined with a quality sound suppressor, the muzzle noise should be minimized.

SABRE Pepper Projectile Launcher

Sabre home defense pepper ball launcher pistol

Billed as being a home defense tool, SABRE announced it would show a new .68-caliber pepper projectile launcher at the SHOT Show. The pistol-shaped device looks to be about the same general size as an old Taser M26.

The launcher is said to have a 7-round magazine with an effective range of 60′ or 175′. I’m afraid the company’s marketing materials state both ranges in different places. It is powered by C02 cartridges.

Not a lot has been released about this product yet, but you can see a video of it below:

AG Composites – Fiberglass Rifle Stocks

AG Composites Fiberglass Rifle Stocks

AG Composites, known for its high-quality carbon rifle stocks, is expanding its product line to include fiberglass rifle stocks. These new stocks offer the same world-class design and manufacturing quality as AG’s carbon fiber stocks but at a more affordable price.

While slightly heavier than their carbon counterparts, the fiberglass stocks provide a robust and stable platform for custom rifle builds or stock replacements. Priced starting at $399, these new fiberglass stocks are an attractive option for hunters and shooting enthusiasts looking to upgrade their rifles affordably.

CenterPoint AT400 Crossbow

Centerpoint AT400 Crossbow

CenterPoint announced a new crossbow called the AT400. Developed for hunters, CenterPoint’s design aims were to give people an entry point to the crossbow market that offered an excellent feature set at a reasonable price without sacrificing power.

The AT400 is rated at 400 fps and weighs 7.5 pounds. It has an all-composite stock and rtail, comes equipped with a 4x scope and a retail price of only $349.99. It should ship in April of 2024.

Omega Magazines for Glock – Elite Tactical Systems

ETS Omega Magazines for Glock Pistols

Elite Tactical Systems (ETS) introduced a new approach to magazines for the Glock pistols. Called Omega, these magazines combine hardened steel feed lips and frame with translucent polymer.

The steel component ensures seamless ammunition feeding and functions like a factory magazine by reducing friction, increasing stiffness, and maintaining essential tolerances for reliable feeding. At the same time, the translucent polymer allows for easy identification of the round type and count.

Winchester 6.5 Creedmoor Power-Point Ammo

Winchester Power Point 65 Creedmoor

Winchester Ammunition’s Power-Point ammo is one of the mainstays in the hunting world. For 2024, the company adds a 6.5 Creedmoor load to the line.

The new load uses a 140-grain Power-Point bullet moving at 2,730 fps. The Power-Point bullet offers deeper penetration and better accuracy than standard soft point loads.

Bushnell Two Way Radios

Bushnell radios

Bushnell announced a new line of two-way radios for folks venturing outdoors. Made in conjunction with Shine Flex US, the new radios should be good for hunters, campers, hikers and others.

The suppressor is less than 7″ long and weighs less than 14 oz. Yet, it delivers quite a bit of suppression. Company testing with an .308 rifle and 18″ barrel showed 131 dB at the ear. A rifle chambered for the 6.5 CM and 20″ barrel measured 132 dB at the ear.

Attending the 2024 Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade Show

The Shooting, Hunting, and Outdoor Trade (SHOT) Show, held annually, is a pivotal event in the firearms industry calendar. This exclusive trade show, typically hosted in January, serves as a vital platform for manufacturers, dealers, and distributors to engage in business and strategize for the upcoming year. Given the dynamic political landscape in the United States, the show often buzzes with discussions about market trends and potential shifts in consumer demand, reminiscent of the sales surges experienced during the Obama administration.

It’s important to note that the SHOT Show is not open to the general public. This event is specifically tailored for professionals within the firearms industry. For those outside the industry but keen on experiencing a large-scale gun show, the NRA Annual Meetings, held in spring, are open to all NRA members and offer a similar atmosphere.

As a seasoned attendee and member of the media, I, along with my team of writers, am privileged to cover the SHOT Show extensively. Our coverage includes the latest firearms, pre-show announcements, product leaks, and even intriguing rumors circulating at the event. We welcome tips and insights from our readers, and while the busy period leading up to the show might limit our response time, we value and confidentially handle every piece of information shared with us.

Attendance Tips Based on Experience

Having attended the SHOT Show for numerous years, I’ve gathered some practical tips to enhance your experience:

  1. Comfortable Attire: The SHOT Show is a professional event, but comfort is key. You’ll be walking extensively, so opt for business casual attire and prioritize comfortable footwear. Rockports or even comfortable boots can be a better choice over formal shoes.
  2. Hydration and Snacks: Las Vegas’ arid climate necessitates staying hydrated. Water fountains are scarce, so bring your own water. Food at the venue can be pricey and limited, so a substantial breakfast and personal snacks can save both time and money.
  3. Sanitation: With thousands of attendees in close quarters, maintaining hygiene is crucial. Regular use of hand sanitizer, along with soap and water, is advisable to stay healthy throughout the event.
  4. Carrying Essentials: Be prepared to receive a plethora of brochures and catalogs. A backpack or bag is essential for carrying these items. Avoid wheeled carts as they can obstruct busy aisles.
  5. Positive Outlook: Remember, working in the firearms industry has its unique perks. Maintain a positive attitude and appreciate the opportunities and experiences the SHOT Show offers.
