New Savage Model 42 – .22 WMR over .410

Last year the Savage model 42 reintroduced the break-open combo gun to the company’s line up. It was a .22 LR and .410 combination gun. For 2013, Savage brought out a new version of the model 42 chambered in .22 WMR and .410 bore.

Both versions of the model 42 break open at the receiver for chambering and extracting ammunition. The top chamber and barrel is for the rimfire round, while the lower chamber and barrel is for the shotshell. I should note that the .22 WMR, also known as .22 Magnum, is not capable of safely firing .22 LR ammunition.

Remington 870 Shotgun with Magpul Tactical Accessories

In 2012, Magpul announced a line of shotgun accessories, and one year later Remington announced an 870 Express Tactical shotgun with those fixtures as standard features. The new Remington 870 uses a Magnum SGA buttstock and a MOR fore-end.

The Remington 870 shotgun is extremely popular for self-defense and police work. I’d venture to say that at least half of the law enforcement agencies in the United States has the 870 as standard equipment in the patrol car. Likewise the guns are extremely popular with citizens wanting serious firepower to defend their homes.

Sarsilmaz SAR ST10 Pistol – Turkish Duty Gun

I got a chance to handle the Sarsilzmaz SAR ST10 pistol at the 2013 SHOT Show, and I was impressed by the apparent build quality and feel in the hand. The handgun felt to be roughly the same size as my SIG P226, but a touch lighter.

The SAR ST10 pistol is a 9mm handgun with a traditional double-action/single-action trigger. It has a manual safety that is engaged when moved into the upper position. To fire, the shooter sweeps the safety downward. The safety can be engaged while the gun is in double action mode (hammer down) or single action mode (hammer back).

Boberg XR9-L: Longslide Version of this Unique Pistol

The Boberg XR9-L is a new addition to the company’s ingenious concealed carry line of pistols. There are a lot of unique features to this pistol that are explained farther down. If you are already familiar with the pistols, I’ll quickly fill you in on the differences in this model.

Essentially, the XR9-L is the same gun as the company’s original XR9-S, but with a little added on to the end of the barrel and slide. It has the same length grip and overall height. It is the same width. The magazines are the same.

The barrel on the XR9-L, however, is 4.2″ long, which is up from the shorter XR9’s 3.35″ barrel. Gun length is longer as well:  5.95″ vs. 5.1″. The sight radius is also increased to 5.25″ from 4.4″

SIG P290 Rainbow

The SIG P290 Rainbow is another in a series of multi-chromatic pistols introduced by the company over the past several years. While some people hate the look, there are a lot of people who really like it.

At this year’s SHOT Show, SIG Sauer showed the latest of these color changing handguns, and I have to say it looks a lot better in person that it does in photos. I’m not sure I would ever buy one, but they are eye-catching.
