New Hornady Shotgun Slugs

Several new Hornady shotgun slug loads have been announced at the 2013 NASGW Expo: two Superformance shotgun slugs and an SST Lite Shotgun Slug.

The new Superformance slugs will be available in both 12 gauge and 20 gauge. Both loads use a MonoFlex slug. Originally developed for lever guns, the MonoFlex design uses a monolithic hollowpoint bullet with the famous Hornady Flex Tip. The slugs are made from a gilding metal, instead of pure copper, to increase their strength and retain 95% of original weight. This helps the slugs to penetrate deeply.

Walther PPX Information

The new Walther PPX was on display at the NASGW Expo, and regular readers of this site have probably already seen some of the photos of the pistol. Here are some more details on the gun and some of my observations.

The new PPX will be available in 9mm and .40 S&W. The 9mm version will hold 16 rounds in the magazine. Alternatively, the .40 S&W will pack 14 rounds into the mag. Either way, you should have an adequate amount of felon repellant should it be needed.

Crimson Trace Defender Series Lasers

Thanks to the good folks at Crimson Trace, I had a first look at the new Defender Series lasers they announced this week. The Defender Series is a collection of red lasers aimed at the budget market.  The lasers run from $129 – 149 MSRP. This is significantly less expensive than some of the other offerings from Crimson Trace.

According to Jeff Goddard, Director of Sales for Crimson Trace, the company is able to make the lasers less expensive by reducing the options on the units, not by using cheaper parts. This means the customer should get the same high quality they have come to expect from all of the lasers in the Crimson Trace line.

Larger Diamondback Pistol Coming

Working a trade show like the NASGW Expo, one hears all sorts of interesting rumors. One of the ones floating around is that Diamondback is going to introduce a new, larger pistol in 2013.

The new Diamondback pistol will be a double-stack, polymer pistol chambered in 9mm, .40 S&W and .45 ACP. I’ve been told the gun will have a different action than the current DB380 and DB9 handguns. It is said the new gun will be striker fired.

Hornady .410 Triple Defense Ammo for the Taurus Judge

Hornady Triple Defense ammo is a new load specifically designed for the Taurus Judge and other similar .410/.45 Colt revolvers. This new load is part of the company’s Critical Defense line of ammunition.

This specific round stacks a non-jacketed (bare lead only) FTX slug on top of two .35 caliber round balls. Standard 00-buckshot is .33 caliber and 000-buck is .36 caliber. So, the two balls are slightly larger than 00, but not quite 000-buckshot.
