Smith & Wesson Logo

In a $130.5 million deal, Smith & Wesson Holdings is acquiring shooting accessory company Battenfeld Technologies according to a press release issued this morning. This move will give S&W a huge foot in the accessory market, an area that they have not strongly pursued in the past.

Missouri-based Battenfeld Technologies owns a number of popular brands including:

  • Caldwell
  • Tipton
  • Wheeler Engineering
  • Frankford Arsenal
  • Bog-Pod
  • Golden Rod
  • Lockdown
  • Non-Typical Wildlife Accessories

These companies cover a wide range of firearms accessories including gunsmithing, reloading, cleaning, storage and more.

Davidsons Beretta Neos purple

Here is some of today’s gun news…

Purple Neos

Davidson’s announced they are now shipping an exclusive purple and black Beretta U22 Neos pistol.  The new guns use purple inserts in the grip and an anodized purple finish on the gun’s top rail.

I understand that purple is not for everyone, but expanding the firearms color palette is a great way to give people a more personalized choice in arms.  Sure, Henry Ford sold a lot of black Model T cars, but today you can get a Mustang in eight colors other than black from the factory.  Consumers like options, and not every gun owner wants black and/or stainless.

Desert Tech MDR-C

The new Micro Dynamic Rifle (MDR) from Desert Tech remains on track for delivery in 2015.  The company showed the multi-caliber, ambidextrous rifle at the 2014 SHOT Show, and has continued to develop the rifle.

Right now, it looks like there will be two versions: the standard MDR and a compact version (MDR-C).  The MDR-C will be 20″ overall with a 10.5″ barrel.  The standard MDR adds 6″ to both measurements.  The rifle can be quickly converted from .223 Rem to .308 Win, 300 BLK, 6.8 SPC and 7.62×39 for an incredible amount of caliber flexibility.
