Remington R51 Update

Remington R51

(Ed. note: For the latest information on the R51, read my most recent update here.)

I spoke with a Remington representative at the 2015 NRA show about the status of the R51 pistol. There has been a wide range of speculation about the gun ever since it was recalled in 2014.

At that time, fixed guns were expected to be returned to owners by October 2014. It is now April 2015, and no guns have been returned to owners. So what gives? This is what I was told…

The Why of the Glock 43

Donna Hobbs.

You probably don’t know Donna, but you should. She is the reason behind the new Glock 43. Donna, and millions like her.

The latest micro-9 was not developed for Donna because she is a woman, though the gun works perfectly well for her as a woman.

Additional Gun Reviews and NRA Show News

shooting a 1911

We are just days away from the NRA show in Nashville, TN. I know I am looking forward to it, and I bet you are as well.

Already, we’ve seen announcements from Glock, Smith & Wesson, Ruger, Remington and Kahr about new guns. I expect there are even more coming. In fact I know of at least one new gun from the aforementioned companies that has not yet been announced…but, I can’t talk about it yet. Follow along on my NRA show page to keep up with the news.

Of course, I’ve been working on some gun reviews in the weeks leading up to the show…

Escort Raider Shotgun

Escort Raider

The Escort Raider is one of the shotguns introduced this year by Turkish manufacturer Hatsan Arms Company.

Much like the Diamond SWAT 12 shotgun I previously discussed, the new Raider is a box magazine fed, semi-automatic scattergun. Unlike the Diamond-manufactured gun, Escort firearms are already imported into the United States by Legacy Sports, so I would expect these will have a higher probability of importation.

There are a number of different options and variants of the gun being introduced at the same time, so let’s go over everything.

Diamond SWAT 12 Shotgun

Diamond SWAT 12 shotgun

Turkish manufacturer Matsan A.S. showed off the new Diamond SWAT 12 shotgun at the IWA Outdoor Classics exposition in Germany. IWA is similar to the SHOT Show that is held annually in the United States.

Quite a few Turkish shotguns come into the US market through various distributors, and in some cases, branded with a US manufacturer’s name. So, I suspect that we will see these in this country – assuming they can muster BATFE approval.* (see more on shotgun importation below)

The new shotgun is a tactical-style, semi-automatic gun that uses a detachable box magazine. Both 5- and 10-round magazines are available for these guns. The magazine latch is at the rear of the magwell. The action is gas operated.
