Buffalo Bore .38 Special Outdoorsman Ammunition

Buffalo Bore 38 Special Outdoorsman AmmunitionBuffalo Bore rolled out a new .38 Special load called the Outdoorsman.  The Outdoorsman is a Keith-style, hard cast lead 158 grain semi-wadcutter bullet loaded to +P pressures.  The load is designed for deep penetration and it should make for an adequate (not superior) round when carried for self defense in the back country.

When trekking in the wilderness, predator animals are a genuine concern.  Penetration to vital areas is much more difficult to achieve with a handgun against a bear than it is against a human.  Therefore, caliber and load choices are different in the woods than in the suburbs.

KRISS Vector Video

The folks from Laura Burgess Marketing put up a video of the Vector line of firearms from KRISS USA.  Evan McNamara introduces the viewers to the Vector line of guns including the carbine, SMG, SBR and pistol models.  All of the KRISS Vector firearms are chambered in .45 ACP and use the standard Glock 21 magazine.  KRISS also makes a magazine extension, taking the Glock mag to 30 rounds.

The carbine is a civillian legal, semi-auto version of the gun with a 16″ barrel.  The SBR, or short barrel rifle, is similar to the carbine, but has a 5.5″ barrel.  The short barrel requires a Federal tax stamp, which is obtainable by all citizens – it just takes time, money and is a hassle.  But hey, that pretty much sums up dealing with any government agency, doesn’t it?

Ruger LCP, LC9 with LaserMax Lasers

Ruger LCP LasermaxThe tiny Ruger LCP and Ruger LC9 pistols are now available with factory-fitted LaserMax CenterFire lasers.  The CenterFire lasers attach to the trigger guard of the LCP and LC9 to minimize the amount of bulk added to these concealed carry guns.

The LaserMax CenterFire units use a red laser that can be adjusted by the owner for both windage and elevation.  The units are easy to remove and re-install by using an included Allen wrench.  The laser units use an ambidextrous on-off switch.

At the time of this writing, LaserMax does not list the CenterFire line of lasers on their website.  The trigger guard mounting appears to be a new product line for the company that offers a variety of guide rod, rail mount and frame mount lasers.

Quick Sighting: A Fast Way to Sight in Your Rifle

So it’s early November and all over the country hunters are in the fields stalking that buck of a lifetime. The cool air has arrived, leaves are falling, and some areas of the country already have snow. Rifle season has already begun in some areas, and in others the opening of the rifle season is fast approaching.

One of the most important things a hunter or sport shooter must do is make sure that their rifle is zeroed. The need for zeroing goes for shooters using iron sights, scopes or other optics. Iron sights and red dot optics are their own animals, so I want to focus in on shooters using scoped rifles.

Something I realized recently is that many shooters aren’t aware of the easiest and quickest way to zero in their scoped rifle. Particularly if you have just had the scope mounted to that rifle. Some people think that having a rifle “bore” sighted is sufficient to make the rifle shoot on target.

2012 Media Day at the Range

2012 Media Day at the RangeEvery year, the day before the SHOT Show has been Media Day at the Range.  It is a chance for vendors and reporters from the firearms industry to meet at the range and get hands-on time with all of the new guns coming out in the new year.  It is at Media Day that I have gotten my hands on the first Ruger LCR revolvers, Gen 4 Glock pistols and some pretty trick stuff from Wilson Combat.

The 2012 Media Day at the Range promises to be even better than in the years past.  Previously, the National Shooting Sports Foundation (the organization that puts on the SHOT Show) has not been a participant at Media Day.  This year, however, the NSSF is throwing their weight behind the event.
