Ruger SR40 Coming Soon?

Ruger SR40
This is the new Ruger SR40.

After speaking to several members of Ruger’s management team, I feel comfortable in stating that Ruger will introduce a .40 S&W version of the SR9 pistol later this year.

The Ruger reps I spoke with stated the .40 S&W pistol (probably called SR40) was definitely something they have looked at, and they grinned knowingly and stated when asked about it “That’s a good idea!”

Ruger management said they were committed to only announcing those products they were ready to launch, and that they did bind themselves to artificial dates like the SHOT Show or the NRA Convention to make announcements.  Ruger staff said when they have something ready to ship, they will make the announcement then, not sit on it for the next big show.

Gerber 06 Auto G10 Tanto Knife

gerber_auto_tantoWith the release of the Gerber 06 Auto G10 Tanto, the company continues to advance the art of fine knife design and manufacturing.  I got to handle a G10 Tanto at the 2010 SHOT SHOW in Vegas and I found it to be a really fun knife.

Improving on the already popular 06 Auto knives, Gerber made the new series even more light-weight by using the G-10 handle.  That handle is made of hard anodized 6061-T6 machined aluminum.

The 06 Auto G10 has a S30V black oxide coated stainless steel blade, which is reported to increase edge retention while providing for corrosion resistance.  This blade is just under 4 inches long and has a partially serrated edge and Tanto-style tip.  The overall length of the knife when the blade is extended is about 8.5″ and with the lightweight material this knife is only 6.3 oz.

TAPCO Intrafuse AR Handguard

TAPCO AR HandguardTAPCO produces a fine alternative to the traditional aluminum quad-rail that many AR-15 owners consider as standard equipment today: the TAPCO Intrafuse AR Handguard.

The TAPCO handguard is made of high strength composite and has full-length Picatinny rails on the top and bottom with half-length Picatinny rails on both sides to create the quad-rail. The bottom and side rails have detachable covers, while the top rail remains open at all times.

The covers are made of Santoprene, described as a high strength flexible rubber material, and are designed to be modular to fit the shooter’s desires. The covers can be removed in a matter of seconds, and do not require any tools to do so.

Stress in Combat

Fighting for your life is likely the most stressful event any person can experience. That stress affects your performance: some of it good, some of it bad. This is the first in a series of articles that will explore what this stress is, and what it does to your body.

Survival Stress

Survival stress is caused by a perception of an imminent threat of harm. The seriousness of the perceived threat causes a proportionate amount of stress on the body. Additionally, if the individual is surprised, or has very little time to react, the amount of stress increases.

For example, willingly entering a MMA competition will likely cause a moderate amount of stress, whereas being attacked suddenly in the parking lot by a knife-wielding thug will probably cause an extreme amount of survival stress.

Survival stress is also referred to as “body alarm response” (BAR) in some of the literature. Regardless on what you call it, it causes some pretty predictable reactions in the body.

Marlin 1894 CSS

marlin_1894_css_01aThe Marlin Model 1894 CSS was a 2009 SHOT SHOW special exhibition, but the company received such positive feedback from SHOT SHOW attendees and gun enthusiasts alike that they decided to make it a part of their standard product line. The “CSS” stands for Cowboy Stainless Steel.

The rifle comes chambered in .357 Mag./.38 Spl. caliber and has a 9-shot tubular magazine underneath the barrel. That barrel is 18.5″ long, and has Ballard-style rifling (six grooves). The shorter than standard barrel is just another feature that makes this carbine a nice brush gun or fun gun. The overall length of the rifle comes in at 36 inches. As the name implies the barrel, magazine, receiver, trigger, and lever are also stainless steel.
