SIG P238 Tribal

The SIG P238 Tribal is just one of the new variations of existing guns that SIG Sauer showed at the SHOT Show this year. Generally, the company will roll out several variations of their popular guns at the show, with some of them becoming permanent additions to the line, while others become limited runs. The P238 line has seen quite a few variations during the past few years.

The P238 Tribal is little different from the standard pistol in function and size. The gun is still a single-action, subcompact handgun chambered for the .380 ACP cartridge. It has a 2.7″ barrel length and weighs only 15.2 ounces (unloaded and without a magazine.)

SAR Arms 357 Revolver

SAR 357 revolver

The SAR 357 is a revolver made by Sarsilmaz and chambered for the .357 Magnum cartridge.  The handgun bears a resemblance to the classic Smith & Wesson revolvers and has several features like the Smith guns.

I had a chance to get a feel for one at the SAR Arms exhibit at the 2013 SHOT Show.  The sales staff was busy with many other customers, so I did not get a chance to draw out a lof of details about this pistol, but what I know I will share here.

Caracal CC10 Carbine

Caracal CC10 picture

Introduced in the summer of 2012, the 2013 SHOT Show was our first opportunity to get our hands on the new Caracal CC10 9mm carbine.  The “CC” stands for “Caracal Carbine”.  The CC10 has a steel receiver and barrel, with a polymer frame, however no details were given on the type of steel.

The CC10 will come in (2) variants – the SB (short barrel version) and the LB (long barrel version).  The SB versions are marketed towards law enforcement, while the LB versions are promoted to the civilian market.  Unfortunately, I was not able to put some rounds downrange with this carbine to truly give it a full review.  [Ed. note:  When we were at the morning session of Media Day during the 2013 SHOT Show, Caracal did not have the CC10 at the range.   They promised to have it there later in the day, but it was never seen by any of our writers.]

Updated Mossberg SA-20 Autoloader Shotgun

Mossberg SA-20

The newly updated Mossberg SA-20 Field/Tactical autoloader is a 20 gauge shotgun with a 20″ barrel, synthetic stock and a variety of features that might make it a good home defense gun for you.  With the updated version shown at the 2013 SHOT Show, I immediately saw the gun’s home defense potential for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is reduced recoil.

The semi-auto action tends to absorb some of the recoil in the mechanical process of moving the bolt, extracting a spent shell and chambering a new one.  Combine that with the lower recoil of a 20 gauge compared to a 12 gauge, and one can see how this gun will likely be more tolerable to someone who is more recoil sensitive.  I’ve never had a problem training people of all sizes to shoot a 12 gauge, but a semi-auto 20 is simply easier for some people to control.

Crimson Trace CMR 203(G): Inexpensive Green Laser

Review of the Crimson Trace CM203 green laser

While at Media Day I stopped in and checked out the new offerings from Crimson Trace.  The CMR 203 (G – for green) immediately caught my eye for its ambidextrous controls, and ease of mount to a pistol or rifle rail.

UNIVERSAL MOUNT

Crimson Trace advises this laser system is designed to be universal to any M1913 Picatinny or Weaver Accessory rails, with (4) fit inserts included.  This laser can be mounted to pistols, rifles, or shotguns.  The CMR 203(G) easily mounts to the rail system and is secured by two retention screws.
