Google Translates Gun Reviews
YouTube is probably the most popular video site on the internet.  It has been a great place for gun people to share information, do reviews and even land gigs within the industry.  As many of you likely know, Google owns YouTube.  The folks at Google have brought a lot of innovation to the technology world, but they haven’t quite managed to perfect turning speech into text.
YouTube automatically produces a closed caption text file for all uploaded videos. Â These files allow the hearing impaired to read what is being said in the video. Â This is a great concept, but it isn’t perfect.
I’m not sure if the problem is in the coding or just that there are too many specialized terms in the shooting world for Google to get the transcribing of gun reviews right. Â Regardless, the results of the transcription errors can run from gibberish to some humorous statements. Â Take a few of these for example.
You may have seen a 71-year-old Florida resident shoot two armed robbers in this self defense shooting video. Â But it is not likely you have read anything like my thoughts on what happened.

Ruger Tactical Tips by Dave Spaulding
Ruger teamed up with firearm trainer Dave Spaulding to produce a series of videos called Ruger Tactical Tips. These training videos are completely free and available on the Ruger website.  The Ruger Tactical Tips videos are several minutes in length, and will be published during the coming weeks and months. The first video on mental preparation is already available on the Ruger site.
Dave Spaulding is a retired law enforcement officer with more than 28 years of experience in patrol, investigations, SWAT, undercover operations and training. Spaulding takes a no-nonsense approach to firearms training, which I appreciate a great deal.
